Sunday School for all ages resumes Sunday, September 9 at 9:30am followed by Fellowship time at 10:30 with coffee, tea, doughnuts & bagels. Regular worship will be held in the Sanctuary at 10:50 a.m.
Adult Education this fall begins with a series titled, “Living Your Faith in the Workplace,” which will run through September 30. We have an unusual opportunity on the 9th to discuss a series of antiwar sculptures with their creator, Beth Vannatta, who is bringing these works of art to D.C., in connection with Veterans for Peace, as part of the peace vigils that will begin September 18. Here is one striking example of someone expressing personal conviction through work.
For most of us, opportunities to live out our faith in our workplace may not appear so dramatic, and yet they are not trivial, either. On September 16 and 23 we will hear personal perspectives on faith and work from members of Hyattsville Mennonite Church and UPCOB; on September 30 we hope to consider the viewpoints of people just entering the workforce, as well as of retirees.

Our Adult Ed classes usually run from three to seven sessions and utilize in-house presenters/facilitators and expert speakers from outside the Church as well. The sessions are held during our joint Sunday School hour (9:30-10:30am) at UPCOB. We hope the range and diversity of previous topics listed here show something of our fellowship as an open-spirited and open-minded group of Christian seekers. Please join us and feel free to comment below on sessions you’ve enjoyed or taken something valuable from. Also, please let us know what other topics you would like the Adult Sunday School to study and learn about next.

Gene Miller of Hyattsville Mennonite and Warren Kissinger of UP Church of the Brethren reflected together on Mennonite and Brethren history in the adult Sunday School class. Their unique distillations and dialogue along with input of those who attended brought the history of the origins, development and relationships of the two traditions alive in a way that could be said to act out and add to a real historical dialectic itself.
